CURRENT FEATURED ARTIST

Kyle Wisser “Toadaroni”

Hello! My name is Kyle and I’m the artist behind Toadaroni. I work full-time as a bike/ski mechanic in Boulder, CO and currently live in Nederland, CO.

My art is centered around frogs and toads with inspiration varying from fantasy, outdoor recreation, and sci-fi. The reason I depict these amphibians so frequently is to embrace the imperfect nature within them. Using the lumps and bumps of frogs and toads gives the characters a larger sense of personality and depth within the drawing.

I didn’t come from an art background. My family had no connection to the art world and I never went to art school. I see drawing very similarly as I see riding my bike. Ever since I was a child my bike was a place of freedom. I can ride my bike for hours and go wherever I want and it’s all my decision. This is what the amphibians allow within my art. I can choose what the toad looks like or what its backstory is. They create a sense of freedom and choice that feels natural in a world that fixates on the pursuit of perfection.

I tend to experiment with various mediums to give new and different life to the ideas I have for each character. I hope to someday create a larger world of characters and involve them into a fantasy novel, however that is a passion of mine and will take many years of work. I am extremely grateful for anyone and everyone who has supported my journey with Toadaroni and am excited to see what kind of toads and frogs come out of it in the future.

PAST FEATURED ARTISTS

meg viola fox

Meg is a fairly new artist in Nederland, but her love of nature and mountains has guided her artworks for as long as she can remember!

Her full time job is making art for video games: concept art, animation, and VFX. This job involves a lot of digital art and tech knowledge. In her freetime she loves to make traditional art using mostly watercolor, gouache, and colored pencil. She especially loves to paint landscapes, and draw real or imaginary creatures. When not making art, you can usually find Meg in the woods hiking, birdwatching, camping, and foraging!

If you see her around be sure to say hi! She is always ready to make new local friends.

danielle m. Crouse

“It’s nice being in a mountain town. Art is a result of culture, and being up here has some more of a focus on the wildlife and environment."

Danielle M. Crouse has a studio across town in Nederland as well as manages the Kaleidoscope Fine Arts Gallery located upstairs at the Caribou Shopping Plaza. A large portion of her work is done with salvaged and repurposed material. Having artists encouraging eachother with support and resources fits right in with this elevated community.
